okay dokay i have no idea why i am writing this when i could be sleeping but i figured this could come in handy in the future when i find myself begging on my knees to get someone into btob and this is an opportunity to write down everything i know and it makes me happy so

(disclaimer: this was inspired by j’s vixx primer and this b1a4 guide and this btob guide helped a bit as well.beware, this is rather long, very biased im afraid and is yet to be completed !!!)

the basics

  • btob is a seven member group formed by cube entertainment in 2012
  • the group consists of eunkwang, minhyuk, changsub, hyunsik, peniel, ilhoon and sungjae
  • they officially debuted march 22nd on m!countdown (though they had a debut showcase the day before)
  • their group name stands for born to beat and has several meanings: born to beat as in they are born to make music and they are born to win over the others, to beat them
  • their fans are called melody — a name ilhoon is said to have come up with — explanation: every beat needs a melody
  • the official colour is slow blue 
  • fun fact they were supposed to debut as a band but that obviously never happened; since they were focusing on playing instruments more they say they cannot dance up until this day

the members

eunkwang (seo eunkwang)

minhyuk (lee minhyuk)

  • born 901129 (29.11.1990) 
  • he is part of rap line, kind of a vocalist and one out of three apparent visuals, he also writes lyrics and composes songs
  • predebut he was an underground rapper called heota and he has started releasing solo stuff again occasionally
  • although his singing voice is pure sugar, minhyuk is mainly a rapper because btob would have too many vocalists otherwise
  • he is also very sporty and has won a ton of medals at the idol star championships for running, hurdles, high jump, futsal and and and, and he was 2014 chuseoks special’s mvp
  • he is also an actor in dramas like love & war 2 and a new leaf and he was the lead actor in btobs mv for irresistible lips
  • in 2016 he almost set a new world record in 60 metres at isac. he missed it by 0.02 seconds
  • seriously is there anything he cant do
  • his mouth is really cute it looks like a cat’s 
  • furthermore he is the one that cries the easiest
  • and he is pretty aware of his image, does a lot of fan service

changsub (lee changsub)

  • born 910226 (26.2.1991)
  • one of the (main?) vocalists
  • he can be pretty deadpan but within there is a super caring person towards the others and fans as well
  • love lee changsub
  • he likes to pull the weirdest, most disturbing faces ever
  • one time it came out that while btob’s black box was being filmed changsub had no idea what that was at the mention of the name, he also had no idea what the cameras where filming for. minhyuk confronted him
  • he can sleep practically anywhere
  • he was the tin man once (there was an axe for the outfit but btob forgot it in a restaurant and never got it back)
  • he hates loves sungjae

hyunsik (lim hyunsik)

  • born 920307 (7.3.1992)
  • one of the vocalists, lyricist and song writer (not only for btob but other artists such as hyuna for example)
  • hyunsik can play the guitar and the piano
  • he is also in charge of eyesmile 
  • music means a big deal to him and he is A Great Art Enthusiast
  • also he is the exact middle between hyung and maknae line
  • he can (kinda?) speak chinese
  • he is like a teddy bear and you cannot hate him

peniel (peniel shin/shin donggeun)

  • born 930310 (10.3.1993)
  • rapper and in charge of english
  • peniel was born and raised in chicago and moved to korea prior to becoming an idol (around 2010)
  • before he debuted with btob he was a trainee at jyp and because he got added to btob last minute, he didnt get as much practice as the others which is why
  • he gets very few lines and when he does it is most likely english
  • he was kind of a part time mc at asc and he is part of america line and he is friends with anyone who speaks english basically
  • his cross dress self is called penelope
  • him and sungjae are a very appreciated pairing, penjae
  • they once did that vlog together that was literally the dumbest thing ever
  • he did that cover once and fucking killed it please listen and fall in love
  • he always wears a hat or a beanie because he shaves his head (he has said he likes it that way! time to move! the fuck! on! people!)
  • he does daily vlogs whenever they are promoting in japan or have overseas schedules, or he posts q&as, a link to his channel

ilhoon (jung ilhoon) (i shall try to stay unbiased, yeah)

sungjae (yook sungjae)

the music

btob have released one full album, eigth mini albums and one digital single as of now (kor.)

  • born to beat was their debut mini album 2012
  • press play, too, in 2012
  • then second confession happened and everyone was mad because all they got after half a year of hiatus was a digital single
  • thriller came out in late 2013 and was their first mini album after a whole year amazing cube thanks for that
  • february 2014 beep beep came out
  • their fifth mini album move was released in september 2014
  • the winter’s tale was a special winter album in december 2014 and their sixth mini album
  • late june 2015 IT FINALLY FUCKING HAPPENED btob got to release their first full album COMPLETE
  • shortly after their summer comeback, btob announced another one in mid-october, with their seventh mini album i mean
  • they came back with their eighth mini album titled remember that in late march 2016

furthermore, they have debuted in japan as well, as of now they have one remake(?) and four original single comebacks (jpn.)

  • debut with japanese version of wow along with second confession in november 2014
  • their first original single album future (tomorrow) followed in march 2015
  • second mini album 夏色 MY GIRL came out in august 2015
  • the third mini album dear bride was released in february 2016
  • in june 2016 they had another comeback with LUV

  • there are specific member versions as well like one version only with eunkwang, one with minhyuk and so on

  • a song off the asia special edition of born to beat
  • they just stand there basically
  • the lyrics are cute but not written by them

irresistible lips (그 입술을 뺏었어)

  • another single off the special asia edition of born to beat
  • minhyuk is the lead actor
  • lots of crying and running
  • and there is a dance version

wow

i only know love (사랑밖에 난 몰라)

  • a single off press play
  • ilhoon co-wrote the lyrics
  • the video are cuts from personal film footage which is very very cute

second confession (두 번째 고백)

when i was your man (내가 니 남자였을때)

  • a song off their third mini album thriller
  • they just stand there and sing but that music video is pure beauty i swear
  • sadly they didnt perform it live often

thriller (스릴러)

  • the title track of their third mini album
  • its about a girl being captured and the guy tries to rescue her but gets turned into a zombie or something idek
  • BUT THEY ALL LOOK REALLY AMAZING IN IT SO HEY 
  • and there is a dance practice video
  • ilhoon and minhyuk helped writing the lyrics
  • many people said the song sucked but 
  • it didnt

  • the title track of beep beep 
  • its about a break up and then youre stuck in traffic jump and get angry ????? or something
  • the mv is really cute because theyre just being dumb basically

  • none of them liked it when they first got introduced to the idea

  • title track of MOVE
  • mostly by e-one but ilhoon and minhyuk helped writing the lyrics
  • its upbeat and a happy song and 
  • the mv is so dumb but so cute its literally btob

  • it’s about being lonely at christmas 
  • the music video is really cute they’re just playing around being children and having a photoshoot

  • the title track of their winter album (obviously)
  • the song was composed, written and arranged solely by hyunsik and ilhoon!!!!!!!! hecky!!!!!!!!!
  • the first half of the mv is Beauty it’s all pastel colours and fairies
  • the other half is with a little girl and theyre wearing onesies what else could you want

  • their first original japanese single
  • from the mini album with the same name
  • very japanese indeed

it’s okay (괜찮아요)

  • the title track off their first album
  • the song is a ballad (btob’s first time promoting a ballad ever) its about having a hard time, its purpose is to give strength
  • the music video is solely acting no choreography
  • BUT IT REACHED ONE MILLION VIEWS WITHIN A WEEK SO THERE IS A DANCE VERSION JESUS BLESS
  • it entered almost every music site at #1 and got in second place on music core which was their first ever second place

summer colour my girl ｢夏色 MY GIRL」

  • the title track off their second japanese mini album
  • the music video is btob looking for a mermaid
  • yes
  • really super duper cute song and a goofy video

way back home 집으로 가는 길

  • the title track of their seventh mini album i mean
  • again, a drama music video it is eight minutes long, with ilhoon changsub and hyunsik as the playing main characters
  • the song is like a second part of it’s okay, the lyrics give strength and help healing
  • reached first place on five music sites
  • sungjae was only there for about five stages in total because of his drama, he missed their first win too 
  • BTOB HAD THEIR FIRST WIN ON 151021 EXACTLY THREE YEARS AND SEVEN MONTHS AFTER THEIR DEBUT (1310 DAYS) ON SHOW CHAMPION WITH WAY BACK HOME CONGRATULATIONS ꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖♡

dear bride

  • the fourth japan comeback
  • a beautiful music video with changsub as the main actor
  • the song is about wishing the one you love happiness as they get married  to someone else

remember that (봄날의 기억)

  • the title track of their eighth mini album and the third part of their infamous “ballad trilogy”
  • a beautiful, light spring ballad
  • the music video is basically all minhyuk and jo boa being boyfriend and girlfriend
  • they got in first on show champion m!countdown and music bank, congratulations ♡

LUV

  • their fifth japanese comeback
  • emo song with literally one third rap line (PENIEL!!!!) and two thirds adlibs but i am not complaining
  • the music video has all of them acting and no choreography
  • reality shows

mnet amazone

  • pre-debut
  • it’s about them gaining audience and mastering several missions and challenges
  • there are five episodes with not more than fifteen minutes

mtv diary

  • ah good old mtv diaries
  • 64 episodes with about fifteen minutes each apart from the last ones that are half an hour each and theyre with vixx
  • its mostly filmed by btob themselves and just everyday life 
  • them being dumb would be an appropriate summary imo

mtv b+ diary

  • this has five episodes with a runtime of about 50 minutes or something each
  • its challenges and little games and sort of scripted stuff
  • cross dressing !!!!!!!!! big yes
  • uh idk minhyuk cries in the last episode
  • yeah

lim hyunsik’s sik sense

  • there are two seasons with about six episodes each season and special episodes here and there
  • hyunsik is the mc obviously
  • btob being dumb with weird talks and games and stuff

manager self camera (msc)

  • twenty episodes
  • pretty short episodes around 5 minutes so ideal if you cant watch long videos
  • filmed by their managers if you couldnt tell by the title
  • it’s just backstage stuff basically

cool men

  • six episodes, long-ish
  • very variety tbh (scripted) 
  • they embarrass themselves a lot with stupid games and dates with mannequins and cross dressing and anything really
  • DUMB

black box (msc s2)

  • seventeen episodes
  • its basically just the same as msc really
  • btob being dumb for the nth time

the beat (msc s3)

  • the third season of msc!!!!! wehey!!!! aka cube being too lazy to come up with a proper show
  • HOWEVER!!!!!! this gets subbed BY CUBE HECKING ENTERTAINMENT GOD BLESS THE LORD
  • the first twenty episodes at least not the special ones that followed
  • yes them being dumb Nothing New

  • so so cute and it really shows their talent
  • just watch it and melt (and die)
